I scored this Masi release while down in Maryland, and
set down to have it this morning while writing a diary
entry. Masi wines with me are a hit or miss, as I have
certain expectations since ther are considered the kings of
Amarone.
This white from them is on a different vibe than their
Masianco, not at uplifting in flavoring, but more elegant
and sublime. I could have sworn that I smelled some subtle
hints of butterscotch upon opening the bottle, but couldn't
get that aroma again. While I don't know what a pure
Gargenaga tastes like, I have come to equate Pinot Grigio
as the Coors Light of wine, it's basically just above
water.
Saying that, this wine does have the airlike qualities
of the Pinot Grigio, but it has an interesting finish, sort
of like a very interesting lemon flavor with a dash of
pineapple on the backend. This wine is perfect for light
fare, or for the non-vin vivant.
